Career Fair

May 14th, 2024

B-EHS PAC

SET-UP - 10:00
TEAR DOWN - 11:10

The purpose of the career fair is to connect businesses and educators with students and share information on potential employment opportunities and career paths. Our target goal is to have 100 booths at the career fair including businesses, universities, community colleges, technical/trade schools, scholarship organizations, and mentors.

In addition to the Career Fair, the school district and local Chamber of Commerce are exploring opportunities for students and businesses through other connections and methods. These opportunities include student employment, job shadowing, paid internships, mentoring and scholarships.

Providing any type of "lift" will make an enormous difference in a student's life, will create connections for businesses to secure new employees, and potentially create a pipeline of future employees.

CAREER FAIR RELATIONSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

 A business can provide opportunities for job shadowing, paid internships, scholarships, and mentoring by taking a booth at our upcoming Career Fair. Creating these relationships is a fantastic opportunity to secure new employees and to tailor a program that meets the needs of a business.

 Students will bring resumes to the Career Fair and will apply for job shadowing and paid internships at that time. When it comes time to award scholarships, the Burlington-Edison Alumni Foundation chose the recipient. The Foundation will use school transcripts, scholarship applications and essays, prior job experience, job shadowing experience, internship experience, letters of recommendation from teachers, individuals, and businesses such as your’s, and recommendations from school counselors to make that choice. B-EAF will find the best qualified student and best match for your business.

 Businesses will create a relationship by staying connected with scholarship recipients through the entire process. The process begins at the career fair where the business can meet and interview students.  Any combination of job shadowing, paid internships, scholarships and mentoring can be designed. This process will create a seamless transition into future employment of the student. A large business may want to establish 2 or 3 annual scholarships in order to create a healthy pipeline 3 to 5 years down the road.

 We are seeking donations to fully fund the Career Fest at the following levels:

             $10,000 Main Sponsor

            $ 2,000

            $    500

            $    100

SCHOLARSHIPS

 The process for establishing a scholarship as a donor is quite easy. The business has control of most aspects of the scholarship and may fund it with a lump sum to be paid out over multiple years, or fund it annually.

 We encourage a minimum scholarship of $2,000 annually for students attending a 2-year college, 4-year university or Trade/Technical Schools. You can choose a variety of requirements for your scholarship, such as Minimum GPA, particular field of study, attending a particular college or trade school, participation in extra-curricular activities, etc.

 For example, if a business is looking to hire more diesel mechanics, they may establish a scholarship for students wanting to become a diesel mechanic, and specify trade school(s). A booth at the career fair (CREATE HYPERLINK TO NAVIGATE BACK TO INFORMATION ON CAREER FAIR) so that they could meet in person and screen the students interested in diesel mechanics.

 We are happy to discuss details and tailor this to your needs.

INTERNSHIPS  (One week paid)

JOB SHADOWING (Individually or in groups)

SUMMER WORK/AFTER SCHOOL WORK

MENTORING

 Like scholarships, the process for establishing an internship is easy. You define the requirements for the internship and at your Career Fair booth you will have an opportunity to meet students in person and schedule follow up meetings.

 In most instances, the student will move on to apply for a B-EAF scholarship and begin post-secondary education. It will all start at the career fair where a business can interview students, create job shadowing and/or paid internships, provide scholarships and mentoring or any combination thereof. This process will create a seamless transition into employing that student.

 Job shadowing, summer and after school employment, and mentoring students can be done through individuals, businesses or services organizations. The relationship can begin at any time in a student’s career, but ideally starts in junior high and continues through employment.

 Mentors will help mentees overcome academic obstacles and assist with applications for scholarships, postsecondary school degrees, and jobs. Mentors can provide information on jobs, schools, and trades and assist mentees with any possible language barriers that might arise.

 We are happy to discuss details and tailor this to your needs.

GUEST SPEAKERS AND OTHER OUTREACH

 High school students are eager to learn more about specific careers and occupations. The Career Fair is one method for them to learn more about these paths, but a guest speaker series on campus provides students with smaller, more intimate opportunities to ask questions.

 B-EAF’s long-range plan includes providing students with mentors to help them with academics, resumes, applications, financial aid forms, and so on. Acting as a guest speakers is another way to engage students with your business.

 Please let us know if you would be willing to act as a guest speaker at the Career Fair.
