Dear Bay View Families,

Welcome back to Bay View Elementary.  Although we have only been in school for a few days, I can tell it’s going to be a great year.  Throughout the year I plan on sending out monthly Bay View Parent Newsletters.  They will each cover different themes, but are intended to offer important insights into how we can best work together to support all our students.  This month I would like to communicate with you about the following topics.

Front Office Staff

Oftentimes your first contact with the school is our front office staff.  Our front office and I would like to make sure that you know these important staff members.  This year, Debby Juarez and Judi Garcia are our front office assistants.  (See photo) These individuals will most likely be your first contact here at Bay View and they will be able to help find the information you need.  If you need to speak to anybody inside the building, please remember to check in at the front desk as you enter the building.  For security purposes, we are asking that non-staff adults stay in the front office area.  Thank you for your cooperation on this matter.

Some of you also have children with specific medical needs and I would like to introduce our Health Room Staff as well.  Sara Dossen is our school nurse.  This year she will split her time between Bay View and Edison.  When she is not here, Mayra Ramirez Florez (our health assistant) will be available to support any medical concerns you have.

Student Drop-off and Pick-up

Once again, I would like to welcome you to the 2026–2027 school year! As we prepare for the start of school, I encourage you to communicate your child’s bus or parent transportation plans with their teacher. During the first few days of school, it is common for students to feel a little nervous or unsure about how they will get home at the end of the day. A quick reassurance from their teacher can go a long way in helping students feel comfortable and confident.

I would also like to review our school drop-off and pick-up procedures. We will continue with our current practices, which provide families with two options for getting children to and from the building.

Option 1: Drive through the front door parking lot

Parents may drive through the staff parking lot and proceed directly to the front entrance of the school. With this option, we ask that you remain in your vehicle and wait your turn to drop off or pick up your child along the sidewalk in front of the building.

Option 2: Park in the side parking lot and walk your child

You may also enter the bus lane parking lot, find an available parking space, and walk your child to the front of the school. If you choose this option, please accompany your child at all times and remain out of the vehicle lanes. When you reach the crosswalk, please follow the directions of the crosswalk attendant, who will usually be me.

This area can be especially busy because we share access with our school buses. Bus schedules are very tight, and there are multiple families waiting for students at different stops along each route. Because we can only release students to adults who are waiting for them, it is important that buses are able to move through the parking lot safely and efficiently. If you see a bus leaving the parking lot, please give the bus the right of way and remain out of its lane until it has passed.

Finally, I want to remind everyone that we are an inclusive school community with a wide variety of needs. The parking spaces designated for our Life Skills students are critical access points for those students and their families. Please help us keep these spaces available by using them only if you have a student in our Life Skills Program.

Lunch Recess Volunteers

We are currently working with our PTA to offer additional opportunities for any interested parent volunteers.  This opportunity will be focused on providing additional support for our students during lunch and recess times, which begin at 11:00 am and end at 1:10.  There will be different time slots and days of the week available for potential volunteers.  All volunteers must pass a background check and schedule a quick meeting with us  prior to starting.  If you are interested, please respond to future communications about this opportunity.  I would also like to encourage any families who would like to work with our Bay View PTA to contact our PTA leadership for information about this opportunity.  There is a short communication from our PTA at the end of this newsletter.

School Supply Donations

As you know,  the Burlington-Edison School District has committed to provide all students the necessary materials to be successful at school.  This means that Bay View families will not need to purchase supplies for our students. In lieu of this information, I have had some parents ask about opportunities to donate classroom supplies to support all students in their child’s classroom.  If you wish to donate supplies or money to our all-school supply, you are welcome to do so by contacting Debby Juarez or Judith Garcia in our main office.

Thanks again for all you do to support our students.  I am so happy with all the wonderful smiles I see in our halls everyday.  This is going to be a great year and I look forward to working with all of you this year.

Notes from our Parent Teacher Association (PTA):

Welcome back for another year or for the first time! We are looking for moms, dads, students and family to join our PTA and make a real difference in your child's education and build a stronger school community. From organizing events to advocating for resources, every contribution helps shape a more vibrant, inclusive, and successful school experience. First meeting will be Sept 14th at 6pm.

Estimadas Familias de Bay View,

Bienvenidos de nuevo a la Escuela Primaria Bay View. Aunque llevamos pocos días de clases, percibo que será un año excelente. A lo largo del año, tengo previsto enviar boletines mensuales para los padres de Bay View. Cada uno abordará temas diferentes, pero todos tienen como objetivo ofrecer información valiosa sobre cómo podemos colaborar eficazmente para apoyar a todos nuestros estudiantes. Este mes, me gustaría tratar los siguientes temas con ustedes.

Personal de la oficina

A menudo, su primer contacto con la escuela es el personal de nuestra oficina principal. Tanto el personal de la oficina como yo queremos asegurarnos de que conozca a estos miembros importantes del equipo. Este año, Debby Juarez y Judi Garcia son nuestras asistentes de oficina (vea la fotografía). Lo más probable es que ellas sean su primer punto de contacto aquí en Bay View y puedan ayudarle a encontrar la información que necesite. Si necesita hablar con alguien dentro del edificio, por favor recuerde registrarse en la recepción al entrar. Por motivos de seguridad, solicitamos que los adultos que no forman parte del personal permanezcan en el área de la oficina principal. Agradecemos su colaboración al respecto.

Algunos de ustedes también tienen hijos con necesidades médicas específicas, por lo que me gustaría presentarles al personal de nuestra enfermería. Sara Dossen es nuestra enfermera escolar; este año dividirá su tiempo entre Bay View y Edison. Cuando ella no esté presente, Mayra Ramírez Flórez (nuestra asistente de salud) estará disponible para atender cualquier inquietud médica que tengan.

Dejar y Recoger a los estudiantes

Una vez más, ¡les doy la bienvenida al año escolar 2026–2027! Mientras nos preparamos para el inicio de clases, les animo a informar al maestro o maestra sobre cómo se trasladará su hijo o hija a casa, ya sea en autobús o mediante transporte organizado por ustedes. Durante los primeros días de escuela, es habitual que los estudiantes se sientan algo nerviosos o inseguros sobre cómo regresarán a casa al finalizar la jornada. Unas breves palabras tranquilizadoras por parte del maestro pueden ayudar enormemente a que los alumnos se sientan cómodos y seguros.

También quisiera repasar los procedimientos de la escuela para dejar y recoger a los alumnos. Continuaremos con nuestras prácticas actuales, que ofrecen a las familias dos opciones para el traslado de los niños hacia y desde el edificio.

Opcion 1: Conducir por el estacionamiento de la entrada principal 

Los padres pueden conducir por el estacionamiento del personal y dirigirse directamente a la entrada principal de la escuela. Con esta opción, les pedimos que permanezcan en su vehículo y esperen su turno para dejar o recoger a su hijo a lo largo de la acera frente al edificio.

Opcion 2: Estacionarse en el estacionamiento lateral y acompañe a su hijo caminando 

También puede entrar al estacionamiento del carril de autobuses, buscar un espacio libre y acompañe a pie a su hijo hasta la entrada principal de la escuela. Si elige esta opción, por favor acompañe a su hijo en todo momento y manténgase fuera de los carriles de circulación de vehículos. Al llegar al paso de peatones, siga las indicaciones del encargado de seguridad vial, que por lo general seré yo. 

Esta zona puede estar especialmente concurrida, ya que compartimos el acceso con nuestros autobuses escolares. Los horarios de los autobuses son muy ajustados y hay muchas familias esperando a los estudiantes en distintas paradas a lo largo de cada ruta. Dado que solo podemos entregar a los estudiantes a los adultos que los esperan, es fundamental que los autobuses puedan circular por el estacionamiento de manera segura y eficiente. Si ve un autobús saliendo del estacionamiento, por favor cédale el paso y manténgase fuera de su carril hasta que haya pasado.

Por último, quiero recordarles a todos que somos una comunidad escolar inclusiva con una gran variedad de necesidades. Los espacios de estacionamiento reservados para los alumnos de nuestro programa de Habilidades para la Vida (*Life Skills*) son puntos de acceso fundamentales para dichos estudiantes y sus familias. Por favor, ayúdenos a mantener estos espacios disponibles utilizándolos únicamente si tienen un alumno inscrito en este programa.

Voluntarios para el recreo del almuerzo

Actualmente estamos colaborando con nuestra asociación de padres y maestros (PTA) para ofrecer oportunidades adicionales a los padres voluntarios interesados. Esta iniciativa se centrará en brindar apoyo adicional a los estudiantes durante el almuerzo y el recreo, horarios que abarcan desde las 11:00 a. m. hasta la 1:10 p. m. Se ofrecerán diversos horarios y días de la semana para los posibles voluntarios. Todos los voluntarios deberán someterse a una verificación de antecedentes y programar una breve reunión con nosotros antes de comenzar. Si le interesa participar, por favor responda a las futuras comunicaciones sobre esta oportunidad. Asimismo, animó a las familias que deseen colaborar con la PTA de Bay View a ponerse en contacto con la directiva de la asociación para obtener más información al respecto. Al final de este boletín encontrará un breve mensaje de nuestra PTA.

Donaciones de útiles escolares 

Como saben, el Distrito Escolar de Burlington-Edison se ha comprometido a proporcionar a todos los estudiantes los materiales necesarios para tener éxito en la escuela. Esto significa que las familias de Bay View no tendrán que comprar útiles escolares para sus hijos. No obstante, algunos padres han preguntado sobre la posibilidad de donar útiles para apoyar a todos los alumnos de la clase de sus hijos. Si desea donar útiles o dinero para el fondo de suministros escolares, puede hacerlo comunicándose con Debby Juarez o Judith Garcia en nuestra oficina principal.

Gracias de nuevo por todo lo que hacen para apoyar a nuestros estudiantes. Estoy muy feliz con todas las sonrisas maravillosas que veo en nuestros pasillos todos los días. Este será un gran año y espero trabajar con todos ustedes.
