Dear Bay View Families,

This is Lance Longmire, principal at Bay View Elementary.  I want to reach out and thank you for sending us such a great group of students.  We are having a great start to the year and anticipate even better things to come!  Throughout the year I plan on sending out monthly Bay View Parent Newsletters.  They will each cover different themes, but are intended to offer important insights into how we can best work together to support all our students.  This month I would like to communicate with you about the following topics.

Front Office Staff

Oftentimes your first contact with the school is our front office staff.  Our front office and I would like to make sure that you know these important staff members.  This year, Debby Juarez and Julie Small are our front office assistants.  (See photo) These individuals will most likely be your first contact here at Bay View and they will be able to help find the information you need.  If you need to speak to anybody inside the building, please remember to check in at the front desk as you enter the building.  For security purposes, we are asking that non-staff adults stay in the front office area.  Thank you for your cooperation on this matter.

Some of you also have children with specific medical needs and I would like to introduce our Health Room Staff as well.  Sara Dossen is our school nurse.  This year she will split her time between Bay View and Edison.  When she is not here, Mayra Ramirez Florez (our new health assistant) will be available to support any medical concerns you have.

Student Drop-off and Pick-up

Thank you for your patience with the school drop-off and pick-up procedures.  As you know, we have tried different options with varying degrees of success.  After consultation with our transportation department, we would like to continue our current practices for both drop-off and pick-up.  This means that parents can have two options for getting their children to and from the building.  The first option is to drive through the staff parking lot, directly to the front door of the school.  With this option, we ask that parents stay in their vehicles and wait their turn to drop off students along the sidewalk in front of the building.  The second option is going into the bus lane parking lot and finding a parking spot there and walking your child to the front of the school.  If you choose this option, we ask that you accompany your child at all times and stay out of any vehicle lanes. When you reach the crosswalk, we ask that you follow the directions of the crosswalk attendant (which will usually be me).  I know that there was some confusion about this and I appreciate your patience as we worked through any difficulties.

On a related note, we are an inclusive school community with a myriad of different needs.  This means that our handicapped parking spots are critical access points for some of our students.  I would like to remind all visitors to only use these parking spots if you have a valid, state issued disabled parking permit.

Lunch Recess Volunteers

We are currently working with our PTA to offer additional opportunities for any interested parent volunteers.  This opportunity will be focused on providing additional support for our students during lunch and recess times, which begin at 11:00 am and end at 1:10.  There will be different time slots and days of the week available for potential volunteers.  All volunteers must pass a background check and attend a short orientation prior to starting.  If you are interested, please respond to future communications about this opportunity.  I would also like to encourage any families who would like to work with our Bay View PTA to contact our PTA leadership for information about this opportunity.  There is a short communication from our PTA at the end of this newsletter.

Thanks again for all you do to support our students.  I am so happy with all the wonderful smiles I see in our halls everyday.  This is going to be a great year and I look forward to working with all of you this year.

Estimadas Familias de Bay View,

Soy Lance Longmire, director de la Escuela Primaria Bay View. Quiero agradecerles por enviarnos un grupo de estudiantes tan maravilloso. ¡Estamos teniendo un excelente comienzo de año y esperamos cosas aún mejores! A lo largo del año, planeo enviar hojas informativas mensuales para padres de Bay View. Cada una cubrirá diferentes temas, pero su objetivo es ofrecer información importante sobre cómo podemos colaborar mejor para apoyar a todos nuestros estudiantes. Este mes me gustaría comunicarme con ustedes sobre los siguientes temas.

Personal de la oficina 

A menudo, su primer contacto con la escuela es el personal de la oficina. Nuestra oficina principal y yo nos gustaría asegurarnos de que conozca a estos importantes miembros del personal. Este año, Debby Juárez y Julie Small son nuestras asistentes de oficina. (Ver foto). Estas personas probablemente serán su primer contacto aquí en Bay View y podrán ayudarle a encontrar la información que necesita. Si necesita hablar con alguien dentro del edificio, recuerde registrarse en la oficina al entrar. Por razones de seguridad, solicitamos que los adultos que no sean miembros del personal permanezcan en el área de la oficina. Gracias por su cooperación.

Algunos de ustedes también tienen hijos con necesidades médicas específicas, y me gustaría presentarles también al personal de enfermería. Sara Dossen es nuestra enfermera escolar. Este año, dividirá su tiempo entre Bay View y Edison. Cuando no esté, Mayra Ramírez Florez (nuestra nueva asistente de salud) estará disponible para atender cualquier inquietud médica que tengan.

Dejar y recoger a los estudiantes 

Gracias por su paciencia con los procedimientos para dejar y recoger a sus hijos en la escuela. Como saben, hemos probado diferentes opciones con distintos grados de éxito. Tras consultar con nuestro departamento de transporte, nos gustaría mantener nuestras prácticas actuales tanto para dejar como para recoger a sus hijos. Esto significa que los padres tienen dos opciones para llevar y recoger a sus hijos al edificio. La primera opción es conducir a través del estacionamiento del personal, directamente a la puerta principal de la escuela. Con esta opción, les pedimos a los padres que permanezcan en sus vehículos y esperen su turno para dejar a los estudiantes en la acera frente al edificio. La segunda opción es entrar al estacionamiento del carril de autobuses, buscar un lugar para estacionar allí y acompañar a su hijo hasta la entrada de la escuela. Si eligen esta opción, les pedimos que acompañen a su hijo en todo momento y se mantengan fuera de los carriles para vehículos. Al llegar al cruce peatonal, les pedimos que sigan las instrucciones del asistente del cruce peatonal (que generalmente seré yo). Sé que hubo cierta confusión al respecto y agradezco su paciencia mientras resolvemos cualquier dificultad.

En relación con esto, somos una comunidad escolar inclusiva con una gran variedad de necesidades. Esto significa que nuestros espacios de estacionamiento para personas con discapacidad son puntos de acceso cruciales para algunos de nuestros estudiantes. Les recuerdo a todos los visitantes que solo usen estos espacios si cuentan con un permiso de estacionamiento para personas con discapacidad válido y emitido por el estado.

Voluntarios de almuerzo y recreo

Actualmente estamos trabajando con nuestra Asociación de Padres y Maestros (PTA) para ofrecer oportunidades adicionales a los padres voluntarios interesados. Esta oportunidad se centrará en brindar apoyo adicional a nuestros estudiantes durante los almuerzos y recreos, que comienzan a las 11:00 a.m. y terminan a la 1:10 p.m. Habrá diferentes horarios y días de la semana disponibles para los posibles voluntarios. Todos los voluntarios deben pasar una verificación de antecedentes y asistir a una breve orientación antes de comenzar. Si les interesa, por favor, respondan a las futuras comunicaciones sobre esta oportunidad. También les animo a las familias que deseen colaborar con nuestra PTA de Bay View a que se comuniquen con nuestros líderes para obtener información sobre esta oportunidad. Encontrarán una breve comunicación de nuestra PTA al final de esta hoja informativa.
