Dear Allen Families,

I want to wish you a Happy November and all the great things that come with this month.  I would like to let you know that we will be having evening conferences for some selected families on November 26, 2024.  These conferences are for students that have particular academic concerns and may require additional parent / teacher collaboration to ensure student success.  Each teacher will be selecting 8-10 students per classroom and contacting them to set up an appointment.  While this conference time is only for a selected few students, if you ever have a concern and want to contact a teacher you may contact them and set up an appointment.  

As the principal, I would like to inform you about our new emphasis on increasing our rate of attendance this year.  In fact, as a school, we are  celebrating students who attend at a rate of 90% or more with a prize on the first Wednesday of the month.  These prizes range from a pencil or eraser to a small bag of chips.  We are also posting the names of Attendance All-Stars who made our goal of 90% attendance or better on the “Orca Board” in the front foyer of the school.  The kids are loving it and we appreciate your cooperation as we work to improve the overall attendance of all our students.  The following is a listing of facts that support these efforts.

• By being present at school, your child learns valuable social skills and has the opportunity to develop

meaningful relationships with other students and school staff.

• Missing 10 percent (just two days a month or about 18 days in a year) increases the chance that a student will not read or master math at the same level as their peers.

• Students can still fall behind if they miss just a day or two days every few weeks.

• By 6th grade, absenteeism is one of three signs that a student may drop out of high school.

Thank you for all you do to help your children, (and all the children at Allen)  We are fortunate to work with all of you this year.

Estimadas familias de Allen,

  Quiero desearos un Feliz Noviembre y todas las grandes cosas que vienen con este mes.  Me gustaría informarles que tendremos conferencias nocturnas para algunas familias seleccionadas el 26 de noviembre de 2024. Estas conferencias son para estudiantes que tienen inquietudes académicas particulares y pueden requerir colaboración adicional de padres y maestros para garantizar el éxito de los estudiantes.  Cada maestro seleccionará de 8 a 10 estudiantes por salón de clases y se comunicará con ellos para programar una cita.  Si bien este tiempo de conferencia es solo para unos pocos estudiantes seleccionados, si alguna vez tiene alguna inquietud y desea comunicarse con un maestro, puede comunicarse con él y programar una cita.  

Como director, me gustaría informarles sobre nuestro nuevo énfasis en aumentar nuestro índice de asistencia este año.  De hecho, como escuela, celebramos a los estudiantes que asisten a una tasa del 90 % o más con un premio el primer miércoles del mes.  Estos premios van desde un lápiz o una goma de borrar hasta una pequeña bolsa de fichas.  También estamos publicando los nombres de las Estrellas de Asistencia que lograron nuestra meta de 90% de asistencia o más en el “Tablero Orca” en el vestíbulo principal de la escuela.  A los niños les encanta y apreciamos su cooperación mientras trabajamos para mejorar la asistencia general de todos nuestros estudiantes.  La siguiente es una lista de hechos que respaldan estos esfuerzos.

• Al estar presente en la escuela, su hijo aprende valiosas habilidades sociales y tiene la oportunidad de desarrollar relaciones significativas con otros estudiantes y el personal de la escuela.

• Faltar el 10 por ciento (sólo dos días al mes o alrededor de 18 días al año) aumenta la probabilidad de que un estudiante no lea ni domine las matemáticas al mismo nivel que sus compañeros.

• Los estudiantes aún pueden quedarse atrás si faltan sólo uno o dos días cada pocas semanas.

• En sexto grado, el ausentismo es una de las tres señales de que un estudiante puede abandonar la escuela secundaria.

  Gracias por todo lo que hace para ayudar a sus hijos (y a todos los niños de Allen). Somos afortunados de trabajar con todos ustedes este año.
