Dear Allen Families,

Spring is here and the flowers are showing us just how beautiful this area can be.  I  hope all of you are doing well and enjoying the warmer weather as we will finish the last quarter of the year on a strong note.  This time of the year has many exciting opportunities for our students, both academically and recreationally.  However, during these incredibly busy times, I would like to remind all of you of the importance of a good night's sleep.  The following are recommendations based on your child’s age;

• Preschooler sleep needs: children aged 3-5 years need 10-13 hours of sleep a night.

• School-age and pre-teen sleep needs: children aged 5-11 years need 9-11 hours of sleep a night.

• Teenage sleep needs: teenagers need 8-10 hours of sleep a night.

That being said, using a cell phone within an hour of  bedtime has been shown to be  harmful to overall quality of sleep.  In fact, according to another article in JAMA Pediatrics, use of digital technology (such as cell phones) at night results in a dramatic decrease in a child’s ability to focus at school.  Please keep this in mind as you monitor your child’s overall cell phone usage.  Keeping cell phones away from children at night will ensure that they come to school rested and ready to learn.

 In addition, I would like to let you know that I will be organizing a Parent/Principal Advisory Committee (PPAC) here at Allen.  Although this information was shared during conferences, if you are interested in being on this committee and have not shared this information with your child’s teachers, please communicate with them.  Thus far I have had quite a few parents that are interested.  That being said, we are hoping to have a diverse group of parents that includes a representative from all the grade levels, cultural backgrounds and languages that we serve here at Allen. 

 I also want to remind you that registration for kindergarten is open.  Contact the district office if you have any questions.  Again, I hope this newsletter finds you in good spirits.  Thanks again for all you do to make sure your children come to school ready to learn.

Estimadas familias de Allen,

La primavera está aquí y las flores nos muestran lo hermosa que puede ser esta zona. Espero que a todos les vaya bien y disfruten del clima más cálido, ya que terminaremos el último trimestre del año con una nota fuerte. Esta época del año tiene muchas oportunidades interesantes para nuestros estudiantes, tanto académica como recreativamente. Sin embargo, durante estos tiempos increíblemente ocupados, me gustaría recordarles a todos la importancia de dormir bien por la noche. Las siguientes son recomendaciones basadas en la edad de su hijo; 

• Preschooler sleep needs: Los niños de 3 a 5 años necesitan dormir entre 10 y 13 horas por noche.

Дорогие родители Аллена,

Пришла весна, и цветы показывают нам, насколько прекрасной может быть эта местность. Я надеюсь, что у вас все хорошо и вы наслаждаетесь теплой погодой, поскольку мы завершим последний квартал года на сильной ноте. Это время года предлагает нашим студентам множество интересных возможностей, как в учебе, так и в отдыхе. Однако в это невероятно напряженное время я хотел бы напомнить всем вам о важности хорошего ночного сна. Ниже приведены рекомендации, основанные на возрасте вашего ребенка;

Потребности во сне дошкольника: детям в возрасте 3-5 лет необходимо 10-13 часов сна в сутки.

Потребности во сне школьного и предподросткового возраста: детям в возрасте 5–11 лет необходимо спать 9–11 часов в сутки.

Потребности подростков во сне: подросткам необходимо спать 8-10 часов в сутки.

При этом было доказано, что использование мобильного телефона в течение часа перед сном вредно для общего качества сна. Фактически, согласно другой статье в JAMA Pediatrics, использование цифровых технологий (например, мобильных телефонов) в ночное время приводит к резкому снижению способности ребенка сосредоточиться в школе. Помните об этом, отслеживая общее использование мобильного телефона вашим ребенком. Хранение мобильных телефонов вдали от детей на ночь гарантирует, что они придут в школу отдохнувшими и готовыми к учебе.

 Кроме того, я хотел бы сообщить вам, что я организую Консультативный комитет родителей и директоров школ (PPAC) здесь, в Аллене. Хотя эта информация была распространена во время конференций, если вы заинтересованы в том, чтобы быть членом этого комитета и не поделились этой информацией с учителями вашего ребенка, свяжитесь с ними. 22–26 апреля – Неделя студенческого духа

25 апреля — Ярмарка технологий B-E с 4:30 до 6:00.

29 апреля – 1 мая – лагерь «Оркила» для всех учащихся 6 классов.

Каждую среду этого месяца будет проводиться ранний выпуск на один час.
