Franky Pierson has always felt fortunate: her parents have money, her father is a TV sportscaster and well-known former football star, and she is a successful high school swimmer. Her family lives in a beautiful home in Seattle, and her life seems nearly perfect.

But things begin to change her freshman year. Her father grows increasingly distant, and he seems threatening at times. Then Franky’s mother begins acting strangely, too, spending longer and longer periods of time at her artist’s retreat in Skagit County.  Franky’s father starts saying negative things about his wife, and soon Franky begins to believe him:  her mother is abandoning the family. She doesn’t love Franky and her siblings, and her father is right:  she needs to let go of her mother and stick by her dad.

But then Franky’s mother is reported missing and later, found dead.  And the prime suspect is Franky’s father. Is he really the killer?  What is the truth about her parents and their relationship?
