Cathy Belben's
Fiction Book Reviews
Updated May 2007
Like most things, this page is always a work
in progress.
I am an avid reader, and I encourage students to read as
often and as much as they can from a wide variety of genres. First and
foremost, the books you read should be books you enjoy--the more we enjoy
anything, the more we are likely to do it,
and the more likely we are to benefit from it.
Research shows that the more you read, the better you become at other tasks, such as spelling, writing, and all sorts of critical thinking skills. You can read about this research in the book The Power of Reading by Stephen Krashen--copies are available in the BEHS library.
People sometimes ask me how to pick books they'll enjoy. Here are some of my suggestions.
