1. Students in the creative writing class wrote ten original poems of
various types with their teacher's guidance. Poems were written and edited in
the classroom.
2. Students visited the library for a brief presentation on the history of bookmaking given by the librarian.
3. The librarian then displayed four different types of simple books:
| Standard accordion | |
| Accordion made with envelopes | |
| Accordion "screen" book | |
|
Accordion codex with envelopes |
4. Students chose which type of book they wanted to construct to put their poems in.
5. Students were divided into 4 groups. Each of the following four days, the librarian gave a small group instructions on how to construct their books.
| Day 1: Standard accordion books | |
| Day 2: Accordion "screen" book | |
| Day 3: Accordion made with envelopes | |
| Day 4: Accordion codex with envelopes |
6. The students who were not in a small instruction group that day word-processed their poems with the creative writing teacher's help.
7. Once the students finished constructing their books and poems, they were displayed in the library.
