| The
week of March 8-12 is Classified School Employee Week established
by our Governor. All of our employees contribute to the overall success
of the Burlington-Edison School District. However, this week we take
time to recognize the efforts of our classified employees: bus drivers,
cooks, custodians, maintenance workers, instructional assistants,
and secretaries. These valuable employees are critical to the success
of our organization and our day-to-day school district operations.
Thank you classified employees for your outstanding contributions
to our organization, our community, and our children! |

| With
the coming of spring, we turn our attention to developing a budget
for the upcoming school year. At this time, I am pleased to report
that it appears that the Legislature is planning no reductions to
our school district funding. If that is the case, when the Legislature
completes its business, we would anticipate no staff reductions for
the 2004-05 school year.
In the coming weeks, school district administrators and the Board
will be working to establish the budget. As in the past, we seek
staff input in this important process; please communicate your ideas
and recommendations to your supervisor/administrator. During the
past several years, our budget has suffered reductions, and I thank
all staff again for the positive way you have adjusted to these
difficult conditions. I am optimistic at this time that the 2004-2005
budget will not be a reduction from last year. |

| As
I mentioned, no reduction in staffing is anticipated for the 2004-2005
school year. As certificated openings become available, we will post
the vacancies according to the negotiated agreement with the B-EEA.
I encourage you to watch for openings as they occur, or contact Jeff
Drayer or Tami Shelley in the Personnel Department. |
