The school year is coming to an end!
While some people may be happy to see the end of the school year approaching, I am rather sad. I enjoy coming to school every day, seeing and talking to the teachers, students, and parents of Edison. It's a great place where learning happens in all sorts of ways. It seems as if we are not taking advantage of our schools by not having school for two and a half months. So what am I going to do about it?
Summer Reading Program
This summer, Edison School will be implementing a summer reading program/contest for all students. The goal is for every student to read at least 20 minutes a day during the 75-day summer vacation. That adds up to 675,000 minutes of reading or 25 hours per student! Students will monitor their reading, explore different genre, and work on projects when they finish a book. More information is coming.
The Edison School Library will be open every Wednesday, 10am to noon
June 19 through August 28

Enjoy Reading!
Summer Math Program
All students in grades 3-8 have access to an online Math program called IXL. Your student knows his/her login, teachers can monitor their student's progress, and it's individually paced. Please encourage your student to access the program a couple times a week this summer to maintain his/her math skills and prepare for the next year's classes.
8th Grade Promotion!
Another example of time passing by is that the 8th graders will be leaving us to "move on" to High School. Please click on the link below to access information and expectations. We are going to miss the Class of 2017 8th graders. They have been an outstanding group of students and citizens and will be remembered for many years.
Check out the school calendar for other upcoming events -- there are a lot of fun activities coming up in the final weeks of the school year.
Assessment
This is the time of year when students are either going on fun field trips, participating in fun activities, or being assessed to determine what they know and how much they have learned this year. Last week we finished the State MSP testing in grades 3-8. This week, we are beginning two weeks of MAP (Measurement of Academic Achievement) testing in Reading and Math for students in grades 3-8. Next week, students in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade will take the MBA (Math Benchmark Assessment). And finally, many students in grades K-6 will be taking the DIBELS test to determine their reading skills. Take a minute to ask your child how they are doing on the assessments, if their scores indicate they are learning, and where their strengths and weaknesses are. They should know the answers to these questions.
Thanks for making this a fantastic first year for me at Edison School. I have the best job in the world and it's because of the great staff, students, and community of Edison that I get to interact with every day!
Stop by and talk with me anytime to discuss your student's progress at Edison School.

Our School Building
Our school building was built in 1996 and is located one mile west of Chuckanut Drive on West Bow Hill Road. The school is a wonderful facility that offers students in Kindergarten through 8th grade many opportunities. Edison has a large gymnasium, library, computer lab, and music room. The outdoor facilities include a covered play area, play equipment, and newly renovated playfields.
