Hello West View Community!

Español

Thank you for your interest in finding out more about our school!  We are a vibrant community of languages, cultures, and learning styles.  We value and promote student and family diversity in order to learn each others’ strengths and build students’ academic performance and citizenship skills.

How would you define West View? Let’s start with our supportive programs.  We provide a strong, research-based set of programs for our students:

  • AVID – 7th and 8th grade, college prep class
  • CIT – K-8, student-driven improvement process
  • Dual Language – K-4th, cultivating bilingual/ biliterate citizens for a global future
  • PAXIS – Twelve “kernels” to promote peace, productivity, health, and happiness
  • Make Your Day  - supporting the learning, safety, and well-being of others
  • Afterschool Programs -  7th/8th Gear Up, Success Academy, Tonalli; K-2 Literacy program

To get a full picture of our school’s progress, we use the following assessments:

  • MAP (7th and 8th graders, Math and Reading)
  • DIBELS (K-6, Oral Reading Fluency)
  • District Assessments (Reading, Writing, Math)
  • PAXIS (Teachers and students, school climate)
  • HYS – Healthy Youth Survey (7th and 8th grade, assesses risk and protective factors at school and at home)
  • WASL (3rd-8th, Reading, Writing, Math, Science)

Many bricks make up a school’s foundation.  Consider each of these programs and assessments as one brick in our strong foundation. We encourage you to ask your child and/or their teacher about our supportive programs and our various assessments.

Together, we build a successful academic climate and a supportive environment for students.  We look forward to working with each of you in the future – beyond 8th grade, as your child enters BEHS, college, their first professional internship, and their career.  Consider us a support system for your child as they explore the world and become a positive influence in our Burlington community and beyond.

We thank you for your commitment to West View,

Meagan Dawson, Principal
Arturo Vivanco, Dean of Students
