Starting Out:

When just beginning, it is important to start out slow. Start out just running for 20 minutes a day. Jog for four minutes then walk for one. Just progress doing a couple more minutes every week. Then get up to about 40 minutes. After a week, try running for the full thirty. Then its up to you. Pick your work outs and do them. It is important to run daily if you plan on doing a race.

 

Serious Training :

I can't give you a whole lot of advice for serious training. Just work hard and be consistent. Stay motivated and work hard towards your goals. Listen to music occasionally on your runs and keep on moving. But for better advice and more specialized workout logs check out Runner's World's training program at the link below:
