2003-2004
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course provides a self-directed and hands-on approach to business and
the key functions of marketing. The leadership association called DECA enhances
the course content. This association of marketing students will allow the
student to demonstrate their abilities to adult judges in a competitive environment.
DECA also provides the opportunity for the student to participate in association
conferences and leadership activities.
COURSE CONTENT:
Selling, Marketing Information Management, Financing, Pricing, Promotion,
Product/Service Management, Distribution, Economics, Professional Development,
Communication/Interpersonal skills and Business Management.
GRADING:
Grading is based on the following criteria:
1. TUB, Spirit Shop, Concessions and special projects as assigned
2. Participation/Leadership/Industry
3. DECA Written and Role-play Event Participation
STUDENT EXPECTATIONS:
The Business and Marketing Department at Burlington-Edison High School utilize
all the Discipline Policies and Procedures in the Student Handbook with the
following additions:
Respect: You will stay seated and not talk when the teacher is talking or another student has been called on to speak. You will put books/supplies back in their proper place. You will not harass or degrade another student in any way. You will keep your hands to yourself and not take anything that does not belong to you. Failure to following these simple guidelines will earn you a referral for insubordination.
Tardiness: If you are not in your seat when the bell rings, then you are tardy. You get 2 “free” tardies per semester. The 3rd and following tardies earn you a referral.
School-Related Absences: The student is still responsible for the course content covered but may not have to make up the daily work. Daily work grades will be assigned at the current Competence grade. However, all missed tests must still be taken.
Cheating: Cheating is the taking of others work and claiming it as your own or providing answers to someone who claims your work as their own. Suspected assignments will be given zero for both the cheater and the person providing the answers.
Theft: Part of your leadership activities may include counting money for the Tiger TUB or handling TUB/Spirit Shop merchandise. If you steal anything or assist in a theft, you will be reported to the administration and processed according to the steps on page 18 of the student handbook. Also, you will repay stolen amounts, possibly be dropped from the class with an “F” and spend the remainder of the semester in ISS. Honesty is always the best policy.
Late Assignments: Late assignments
are not accepted without parents’ explanation. Assignments can be one
day late for each day of excused absence. Late papers without a written explanation
will not be accepted. Papers without names will be thrown away.
