Course Description
This semester elective course will examine the Second World War. Considerable attention will be placed on the causes of the war in both Asia and Europe. We will trace the actual development of the war stressing the goals of the planners as well as the unintended consequences of events. Emphasis will be placed on the enormous importance of actual war production and its inevitable consequences. Subordinate themes in National Socialism and Japanese authoritarianism will be examined.
Why WWII?
World War II is arguably the most important event of the 20th century. In less than a decade the world was transformed and fighting occurred in every region across the globe. Millions of soldiers and civilians died, and an entire race of people was almost eradicated. Charismatic leaders led their nations forward into battle; some led their people to ruin while others emerged more powerful and influential than ever. WWII was an event that saw countries and people pull together like no other time in history. However, it was also a time when greatest crime again humanity took place. WWII is an interesting, exciting, and relevant topic to examine in full detail.
Grading Policy
A point system will be used to determine grades. Every assignment, paper, presentation, quiz, and test will carry and assigned point value. The following percentages will determine student grades:
| 100% - 92%=A | 89% - 87%=B+ | 79% - 77%=C+ | 69% - 67% = D+ |
| 91% - 90% = A- | 86% - 83% = B | 76% - 73% = C | 66% - 60% = D |
| 82% - 80% = B- | 72% - 70% =C- | 59% - 0% = F |
Late Work
It is crucial to turn in work on time to be successful in this class. Students will be expected to perform various tasks on a consistent basis. Work is considered late if it is not turned in at the beginning of the class on the day that it is due. Late work can be turned in; however, the assignment will be penalized one letter grade per day that it id late. If a student knows that he or she will be absent, then it is their responsibility to approach me and get the assignment prior to their absence.
Attendance and Participation
Attendance and participation are crucial components to this class. Students will be expected to come prepared and be ready to engage in discussions on a daily basis. Students will consistently be assessed on their participation throughout the semester through discussions, debated and dialogue with the teacher and peers.
The school attendance policy, as outlined in the BEHS Handbook, will be followed in this classroom. Students are responsible for making sure that all absences are excused or all missing work will result in a zero. If a student misses work because of an excused absence, it is the responsibility of the student to find out what work he or she has to make up in order to receive credit.
A student is considered tardy if he or she arrives to class after the final bell. students that arrive after the dell ar a disruption not only to me, but to the rest of the class as well. Students will receive an unexcused absence after the third tardy.
