Mr. Hance graduated from Linfield College in 1974 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. Then in 1980 he graduated from the Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon with a Master's Degree in Teaching. Mr. Hance also completed post-graduate work in Spanish at the University of Oregon from 1985-88.

Mr. Hance taught in Oregon for sixteen years, and has now taught in Washington for sixteen years also. This is his 17th year of teaching at B-EHS and was the Burlington's Rotary Club "Teacher of the Year" in 2006.

Mr.Hance has had thirty years of coaching experience, including twelve years as a head basketball coach. He has coached every level of boy's and girl's basketball (grades 7-12).
