Idea of the Week
April 12-16, 2004
If you’re thinking about doing something to promote Earth Day (April 22), consider these possibilities:
| Update and distribute your list of enviro fiction and non-fiction | |
| Host a craft day in which you re-use old materials to make new things (search on line for “crafts with recyclables” and you’ll find a lot of stuff) | |
| Display books about the environment and conservation | |
| Post a list of conservation websites on your page. Here’s mine (you have to scroll a ways to find it): http://www.be.wednet.edu/ourschools/hs/library/history.htm | |
| Put an earth-fact-of –the-day in the bulletin board and/or post around school (I have my student aides do the research) | |
| Make cloth book bags and/or iron on new decals to old library conference bags that are stacking up in your basement | |
| Teach kids how to make envelopes out of wallpaper samples or magazine pages | |
| Invite in guest speaker(s) to talk about environmental issues | |
| Subscribe to Ready Made magazine, or get cool ideas from their website: www.readymademag.org | |
| Check out “Not Martha”—cool site with ideas for recyclable crafts and fun stuff | |
| Highlight your Natural History collection. See my article for more ideas: http://www.be.wednet.edu/ourschools/Hs/library/natural_history_article.htm | |
| Organize a hike or litter pick up; have your library club adopt a highway |
