Information for Subs
I finally got smart this year and asked my school secretary to include a sheet about the library policies in the sub folders she gives to teachers' subs each day when they arrive. After years of being frustrated about not being able to communicate with subs (they don't have email), I finally got smart and put together a one-page sheet of library expectations and attached a packet of library passes.

Here it is:

Welcome to BEHS!  We’re glad you’re here to work in our building.  The following information will, we hope, help you have a successful day with our students and give you some information about library usage.

Library Hours
The library is open for student and staff use from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. If you need to use a computer during your prep period, feel free to come in and we’ll help you. We have internet access and the complete Microsoft Office software available. If you are using Hotmail or another free email service, we will probably need to override the internet filter for you. Just ask, and we’ll be happy to help.

Library Use by Entire Classes
Teachers schedule use of the library with me in advance, so there should be a note of that in the lesson plans the teacher left for you. If you need to check the library schedule to confirm or clarify, check the website at http://www.be.wednet.edu/OurSchools/Hs/library/weekly%20schedule.htm or call us at 3128 or 3129.

Library Use by Individual Students
Students may visit the library with a signed pass from you that indicates what they are coming to the library to do. Students without a pass will be sent back to class. Please do not send more than 5 students at a time. If you do send a group, please call 3128 first to confirm that we can handle them all—the library is often busy, and we may not be able to supervise extra students.

When you send a student to the library, please tell them when you expect them to come back to class, and write this information on the pass so we know how long they are permitted to be in here.

Thanks for your cooperation! Have a great day at BEHS!
