Special Education -

Special education services are provided to all (disabled) students who meet qualifying criteria and who, because of their impairment(s), require specially designed instruction to meet their educational needs. The special education team for the high school student typically includes the student, parent(s), special education teacher, psychologist, transition specialist, counselor, general education teacher, and school education administrator. Other members invited to participate on the team may include the speech/language pathologist, occupational therapist, physical therapist, or other professionals at the discretion of the team. The purpose of the special education team is to provide instruction, therapy, assessment services, and develop the student's individualized education program.

Special Education is specifically designed to meet the unique educational needs of students through team planning. The team are all those responsible for the delivery of the student’s educational program and the meeting of goals and objectives as indicated on the students IEP.

Students cannot be registered for Special Education Classes until they are found eligible for the Special Education Program. Students must be referred for a Special Education Evaluation before they can become eligible for services. Parents can contact their student’s counselor or individual teachers for more information.
