| Following is a list of accommodations that can be considered in planning
for the students successful participation in the mainstream classroom.
For the students who need support in reading:
Have the student read alternate material at his or her level.
Have someone (peer, volunteer, parent, aide, etc.) read the material
to or with the student
Have the student listen to the material on tape.
Modify the length of the reading assignment.
Provide additional time to complete the reading assignment.
Provide the student with a reading guide.
Provide highlighted texts.
Discuss the content of the reading with the student before he or she
reads the material.
Provide reading assignments that are relevant and motivating to the
student.
Provide opportunities for the student to learn the information through
other media (videotapes, films, filmstrips).
