Why should I register for a Business or Marketing class?

Whether you are looking forward to a career in business/marketing or not, the chances are that anything you choose to do will involve computers in some way. Therefore, you will most likely want to have experience in using them beyond the required freshman classes. But computer skills are not the only things that you can gain from a Business or Marketing course. There are a wide variety of classes for you to choose from.

What Business/Marketing classes are offered?

If you are interested in Marketing courses, you can take:

  • Intro to Marketing
  • Plans & Strategies
  • Student Store
  • Starting Your Own Business, which is worth an 11th or 12th grade English credit.
  • Business Management/Economics
  • Work Experience

  • Microsoft Office
  • Desktop Publishing 1 & 2
  • Digital Imaging 1 & 2
  • Web Design 1 & 2
  • Sports and Entertainment Marketing
Business/Math Related
  • Record Keeping (worth 1 math credit)
  • Business Math (worth 1 math credit)
  • Accounting (worth 1 semester math credit)
  • Business Communications (1 English credit)
  • Business Law

What are Certificates of Mastery?

There are several Certificates of Mastery in the Business and Marketing department that can be earned by taking classes under specified topics. You can be certified in Marketing, Media Publication-Print, Media Publication-Web Page Design, Media Publication-Video Production, Office Administration, and Business Operations. Each certificate has 5 required classes and a list of electives to choose 3 from. In order to receive the certificate, the student must have a C or better in all certificate classes and a Business/Marketing GPA of 2.8 or better.

How Can I Get College Credit Business Courses?

Several of the Business/Marketing classes offered here at B-EHS fall under the Tech Prep credit program. These allow students to stay on the High School campus and take college level classes, which

DECA

DECA, an Association of Marketing Students, is perfect for anyone who wants to learn more about the 3 M’s: Marketing, Merchandising and Managing. All of the DECA competition topics are integrated into the classroom curriculum. As a DECA member, there are opportunities for travel, teamwork, and a lot of fun. If you are aggressive and want to learn more about the aspects of business that deal with the customer, then DECA is a great opportunity for you.

FBLA

The Future Business Leaders of America organization is a great way to learn about the operations of a business. There are opportunities for travel, community service, and plenty of fun. We hold competitions in a wide variety of events, varying from Business Math, to Business Communications, to Desktop Publishing, to Public Speaking.
