Mountain Sports Club

By-Laws

Approved by unanimous vote of members present: November 15, 2007

 

Article I:        Name and Definition
Section 1.    The Name of this organization shall be Burlington-Edison Mountain Sports Club (BEMSC).
Section 2.    The BEMSC is defined as an ASB Club at Burlington-Edison High School.   Membership consists of 9th-12th grade students enrolled at Burlington-Edison High School who have a personal interest in mountain sports (including but not limited to snowboarding, skiing, sledding, mountain-biking.)

Article II:         Mission
Section 1.    The mission of the BEMSC is to provide members with a venue to appreciate and explore all aspects of mountain sports culture, industry and lifestyle.

Article III:        Membership
Section 1.    Membership:  All 9th-12th grade students enrolled at Burlington-Edison High School possessing a personal interest and passion in mountain sports, including but not limited to snowboarding, skiing, and mountain-biking are eligible for membership.  There shall be no POSERS in our club.  A poser is defined as someone whose purpose is to brag about their abilities.
Section 2.    Requirements:  Members are required to participate in committees, and provide their own funds and transportation when needed.
Section 3.    Removal:  In the event of behavioral issues within the club or on trips, membership may be revoked at the discretion of a joint decision of the Club Supervisor and Committee Chairs.

Article IV:        Committees
Section 1.    All BEMSC members shall participate in committees which suggest and implement the club’s activities.  Each committee will be led jointly by 2 persons: an Committee Chair and Co-Chair.  The committees shall include:  Fundraising, Marketing, Volunteering, and Special Events.
Section 2.    Committee Chair Responsibilities:
Committee Chairs and Co-Chairs are responsible for leading the members of the committee, organizing events, making arrangements and coordinating with the Club Supervisor.  The term of the elected Committee Chair positions shall be for one year.   There shall not be a limit to the number of successive terms for a committee chair or co-chair position.
Section 3.    Committee Responsibilities:
i.       Fundraising Committee:  Organizes and implements strategies to raise funds to support BEMSC activities.  Committee chair ensures that all ASB requirements are met for the raising and accounting of money.
ii.      Marketing Committee: Oversees and directs all advertising and promotional activities of the club, including video production,  photography, posters, apparel and website.
iii.     Volunteering Committee:  Investigates opportunities for members to make positive contributions to the mountain sports community.
iv.     Special Events Committee:  Organizes and implements activities and events to support the mission of BEMSC.

Article V:         Meetings & Elections
Section 1.    Meetings will be held 2-3 times a month during the months of November-April.  Meetings will typically occur at 2:35 in Room 1313 and last 30-40 minutes unless otherwise warranted.
Section 2.    Elections for positions of Committee Chairs and Co-Chairs will occur during one of the initial three meetings of the year.

Article VI:        Amendments
Section 1.       To revise or amend this constitution shall require a unanimous approval of the committee chairs and a 2/3 approval vote by the general membership.
