Mother's Day Plant Sale

The high school horticulture classes will be having their annual Mother’s Day Plant Sale this weekend as usual. The sale runs Friday from 2:30 to 5:30 and Saturday from 9:00-2:00. We have a lot of hanging baskets including the big petunia baskets that the city buys from us as well as a good selection of 10” Ivy Geranium and Fuchsias. There’s color bowls and annual packs galore. Sorry, we can’t reserve plants or presale but we hope to see you there.

Congratulations ROTC

I take great pleasure in announcing that our NJROTC unit has received the Distinguished Unit (with Scholastic Honors) award for this school year.  To receive this award means we are in the top 10% of units nationwide.  The cadets have done extremely well this year – we have two conference champion teams and one that placed 2nd in the state.  Additionally, one of our cadets (Lanie Long) won the Washington Junior Olympics and competed in the all-service nationals in Columbus, Georgia, last month where she placed 7th.  Next month she will compete in the NRA nationals in for a spot on the Olympics training team.  Our academic teams placed in the top third in the nation (over 1600 teams).  We’ve had a great year, and I wanted you to know what a great group of kids can do, and have done – and I haven’t even mentioned all the community service projects completed – which is the real meat of the program.

This is the 9th year in a row we’ve received this award, and you need to understand and feel good that this is a total team effort.  Not only are we judged throughout the year, but how the administration and community provides support is crucial.  You have been superb in your ongoing support. Captain Butch Bailey
