Unit Student Learning Objectives
Student Learning Objectives -- As a direct result of reading, studying, and discussing Unit IV, "A Century of Socio-Economic Progress," each student shall be able to:
PROBLEMS:
1. Explain how the 1897-1900 Alaskan Klondike-Yukon Gold Rush effected Washington State and the growth of Seattle with respect to economies.
2. Identify why Washington State was a major contributor (economically) for World War I and World War II.
3. Describe at least one social and one political reform movement in Washington State.
4. Identify Washington State's major trading partners and why we trade with them.
5. List 2 major natural "disasters" Washington State has weathered and how they have effected our region.
6. Explain the "Spotted Owl" controversy and problems associated with the Washington State "Salmon Industry" in recent years.
7. Explain the major periods of Washington's population and economic growth since we became a state in 1889.
8. Name three prominent businessmen and describe the contributions they made to Washington's history.
9. Explain how the following business cycles have effected Washington's economy; panics, recessions, depressions, and growth spurts.
