Unit Four: Exploring Early America - (1.11, 1.2)
Students Will: Identify and apply a
variety of appropriate reading strategies to make sense of a variety
of print texts, to understand the human experience, and to develop
ideas in written/oral responses. They will also write transactive
pieces that demonstrate independent thinking about content and
structure observed in practical/workplace and persuasive reading.
Task: You should read the novel Tom Sawyer by Mark

The novel is divided into 35 chapters and it will take some time
to work through the entire novel. Therefore, you should read it
dividing it into these sections: Read chapters 1-5 and
complete the assignments for that section; 6 - 10 and complete
assignments; 11- 15 and complete assignments; 16-20 and complete
assignments; 21-25 and complete assignments; 26 - 30 and complete
assignments and finally chapters 31-35 and complete those
assignments. This novel will have a comprehensive examination at the
end of all the reading and assignments. You may take notes as you
read each set of chapters and make certain you become familiar with
any vocabulary words you might encounter. You may use the text of
the novel to complete any assignments, but for the examination at
the conclusion of the novel, you will not be able to use your text
