Unit Five: Leadership Development

Description of Unit:

To meet the competencies for the Leadership Development unit, the student will complete the following assignments with a minimum grade of 2. If a grade of 1 is received, the student must redo or complete the assignment. Test grades will be averaged in as a percentage of the points possible. A reminder - all work must be completed with a grade of 2 or more before any grade other than an incomplete is earned.

Assignments:

  1. Read Chapter 14 in the Text and complete questions 1-3 on page 292 "Thinking Critically". Be sure to use complete sentences.
  2. In the Workbook, complete the following activities: 14-1, 14-2, 14- 3, 14-4 and 14-5. To complete 14-5 you can use a magazine, newspaper article or the internet.

  1. type a minimum on 100 words explaining how you have shown (1) creativity, (2) flexibility, and (3) setting a good example at your work site. If you are not employed, see the instructor about an alternative assignment.
  2. Read Chapter 15 in the Text and complete questions 1-4 on page 312 "Thinking Critically". Be sure to use complete sentences.
  3. In the Workbook, complete the following activities: 15-2, 15-3, and 15-4.

  1. Set up a meeting situation with at least four people (you and the teacher will be two of the four) in which you will facilitate a meeting with a written agenda designed to accomplish a goal using the meeting participants to solve a problem. You can identify and set up ahead of time the problem, but you must show that you can facilitate an effective solution. Upon completion of the meeting, type a paragraph (min. 4 sentences) explaining how you would manage the project as determined by the meeting participants.
  2. You are responsible for training a new employee. Put on a half-hour demonstration regarding something you have learned on the job or something that you typically do on the job. The teacher will be the new employee. If you are not employed, see the instructor for an alternative assignment.
  3. Read the Chapter 11 handout from "Your Attitude is Showing" and answer to the questions from the "Frustration" Problem 11 on page 102. Use complete sentences.
  4. Read Chapter 16 in the Text and complete questions 1-5, "Thinking Critically" on page 332. Be sure to use complete sentences.
  5. In the Workbook, complete the following activities: 16-1, 16-2, 16-3 and 16-4.
