WASL
All sixth graders took the WASL (Washington Assessment of Student Learning) last month.  Thanks to parents and families for your support at home by providing a healthy breakfast and ensuring students got plenty of sleep.  Results from the WASL will be mailed home in the fall.

DISTRICT-WIDE MATH NIGHT
All parents and students (over 4th grade) are invited to attend a Math Informational Night on May 6th from 6:00-8:00pm.  Pizza and juice will be provided for $1 per person from 5:30-6:00 in the Tiger Tub.  Childcare will be provided for K-5th graders.

MAY BOOK PROJECT & WAX MUSEUM PROJECT
The May Book Project is on a biography and the project includes a presentation at the Wax Museum which is scheduled for the evening of Thurs. June 5, the same evening as the Spring Music Concert.  Students need to choose a person to research.  Guidelines for the Wax Museum Project went home earlier this week.

TWO HOUR LATE START
Our last two hour late start for the year is scheduled for Wednesday, May 14th.  School will start at 11:00 on that day.  The staff really appreciates the time on those mornings to collaborate and share strategies for increasing student learning.

MEMORIAL DAY- NO SCHOOL
There will not be school on Monday, May 26th for Memorial Day.

SKAGIT CONSERVATION FIELD TRIP
All sixth graders in Skagit County are invited to participate in a field trip by Skagit Conservation District.  Our trip is scheduled for Tuesday, May 13th from noon to 3:00.  Students need to bring a SACK LUNH and dress appropriately for the weather.  The field trip is free.

MoNA FIELD TRIP
Our last MoNA trip is on Thursday, May 15.  Parent volunteers will be needed, please sign up on the permission slip.

PTA FUND RUN
The PTA Fund Run is scheduled for Friday,
May 9th.  The walk for grades K-3 is from 1:45-2:30 and for grades 4-8 is from 2:30-3:15.  Students are to collect flat-fee donations and turn them in on Fridays until the event.  There are a variety of awards and incentives for students who collect donations, such as the top class with the most donations will receive a pizza party.

LAST DAY OF SCHOOL
The last day of school is now set for Friday,   June 13th.  Students will have an early release day, getting out at 12:40.

SIXTH GRADE RETENTION POLICY
Yet another reminder that if sixth graders do not pass their classes, the district sixth grade retention policy states that the student is required to go to summer school.  The three weeks for sixth grade Summer School are August 2-22. 

CURRICULUM CORNER
In Math we are in our Connected Math unit of Accentuate the Negative which is on adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing negative numbers.  In Science we are continuing our study of Earth History with a special focus on the Grand Canyon.  In Writing we are wrapping up creative writing- both in short story form and poetry form.  For our Harcourt Reading we are in our last theme of the year and after that will begin our last class novel.
