JOB TITLE: Instructional
Assistant, Special Education, Life Skills
(Temporary
for the 2009/10 school year)
JOB SITE:
JOB GOAL: To provide assistance to the
supervising teacher at the job site, working with elementary-age students with
special needs.
QUALIFICATIONS: Preference for person with
one or more years of experience working with elementary school-age students
with learning disabilities in a self-contained educational setting, following
and implementing Life Skills Curriculum and Focus. Completion of Special Education competencies required
or demonstrated history which would qualify applicant to obtain competencies. Minimum high school
diploma or equivalent education, training or experience that provides the
desired skills and abilities. Must exhibit a genuine liking for and understanding of students
with special needs. Ability to be a cooperative and productive member of an
instructional team carrying out directions with minimum supervision. Demonstrated initiative,
good task analysis, and ability to follow directions. Ability to communicate
harmoniously with staff, students and parents. Ability to maintain
confidentiality of student information.
EMPLOYMENT 6
hrs/day, Monday-Friday, 174 days during the school year.
TERMS: Salary range: $12.95-$15.43
per hour or per negotiated agreement. This
position is part of the local bargaining association. Ability to pass
Federal/State criminal history background clearance and all other mandated
clearances. Medical,

personnel, consideration is given to experience and performance in developing
effective parent, family and community partnerships. Individuals on layoff status, who meet job
requirement, shall receive first consideration for newly posted positions
within the appropriate job classification.
PHYSICAL & Physical
demands include alternate sitting, standing, attending, listening and
MENTAL DEMANDS: speaking, and writing. Moderate strength and agility required for
position. Mental demands include verbal
and written communication, interaction with students and problem solving.
