GIFTED PROGRAM (ACTS) COORDINATOR, 1.0 FTE

DISTRICT GRADE SCHOOLS

 

The Burlington-Edison School District is seeking qualified applicants for the position of full-time Gifted Program Coordinator for grades K-8 beginning with the 2008/09 school year.  Burlington-Edison School District is located in Skagit County, Washington, approximately 75 miles north of Seattle on the I-5 corridor.  The enrollment of the school district is approximately 3850 students.

 

PROFESSIONAL & PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS OF SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES:

·         Valid Washington State teaching certificate

·         Demonstrated knowledge of current approaches in gifted education and knowledge of Washington Administrative Codes for Highly Capable Student Services/Student Educational plans.

·         Demonstrated knowledge of the physical, psychological, and social characteristics of elementary and adolescent aged students, particularly in relation to gifted attributes.

·         Evidence of leadership skills, positive human relation skills, and organizational/management skills.

·         High degree of flexibility, scholarship, commitment to accomplishment, and enthusiasm for profession.

·         Ability to function cooperatively as a member of the district's gifted task force.

·         Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff and parents.

·         Knowledge of or amenable to learn, use and integrate the district’s technology strategies, systems and curriculum software programs as well as demonstrate knowledge of and integrate the District’s Technology Competencies.

·         Ability to pass Federal/State criminal history background clearance and other mandated clearances.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Effectively plan, implement, and evaluate instructional programs for selected students, consistent with the district designed gifted program.

·         Provide instruction to students for a portion of the day

·         Chair the district's gifted task force.

·         Consult with classroom teachers and provide intervention strategies to facilitate mainstream experiences; coordinate services between surrounding business communities and the educational program.

·         Provide for parent program information and involvement.

·         Oversee district testing, identification, screening and notification procedures.

·         Develop and Implement Education Plans for identified students.

·         Responsible for procuring grants, maintaining proper grant documentation, and year-end reporting.

 

EMPLOYMENT TERMS:

·         182-day basic contract with fourteen additional days and supplemental contract for any extracurricular assignments.

·         Salary in accordance with current negotiated salary schedule.

·         Medical, dental, and other insurance benefits are available from district-approved plans.

·         This position is part of the local bargaining association.

·         Pursuant to RCW 28A.405.070, job-sharing applications will be considered.
