Summer vacation is a fun time. Think about what you did this summer. Pick one thing you did and tell about it. Where were you? Who were you with? What did you like best about this activity? (narrative)

October

District-wide writing Assessment: prompt provided (record scores on the district assessment chart and the assessment result form)

November

Teacher model this: Choose one problem from the ADD Math Book. After you have solved it, model step by step instructions (use pictures, numbers and words) describing one way to solve the problem. Be sure to include a beginning, middle and end (expository).

Writing Prompt: Turkey Math

December

Think of a toy, book, game, etc. that you would like to receive as a gift. Write a letter persuading your family that they should buy it for you (persuasive).

January

You are going to spend Friday night at a friend’s house or at your grandparents’ house. Explain what you would need to take with you to be prepared (expository).

February

District-wide writing assessment: prompt provided (record scores on the district assessment chart and on the assessment result form)

March

Use the math prompt (snow balls) included in your curriculum binder.

April

Excluded due to 3rd grade WASL testing

May

District-wide writing Assessment: teacher selected prompt (record scores on the district assessment chart). Prompt Idea: You have been given a 3rd grade memory box. This box will hold objects or pictures that will remind you of your year in 3rd grade. Explain what items you would choose to put in this box and tell why they are important (expository).
