September

Ask the students to brainstorm a list of things they did to get ready for school. Then, together, put them in sequential order (ideas and organization).

October

Choose one story problem from an ADD Math lesson. After you have solved it, model step by step instructions (use pictures, numbers and words) describing one way to solve the problem. Be sure to include a beginning, middle and end and help them come up with transition words (organization).

November

Use the math prompt (turkey math) included in your curriculum binder. Review the Oct. writing activity before you begin (expository writing).

December

Draw a picture and use sentences to tell about a present you would like to receive. Color your picture (ideas).

January

Draw a picture and use sentences to tell about someone you love. Show what is special about them. Show action and details (ideas).

February

District-wide writing Assessment: prompt provided (record scores on the district assessment chart and the assessment result form)

March

Use the math prompt (snowballs) included in your curriculum binder (expository writing).

April

Ten ladybugs have two leaves they can sit on. How many different groups or arrangements of ladybugs can be on two leaves? Draw your answer and add words (students may use manipulatives).

May

District-wide writing Assessment: teacher prompt (record scores on the district assessment chart)

June

Make an alphabet book or bulletin board for first grade. Each student illustrates a page showing a word: Alphabet, Books, etc. (word choice).
