The Able, Creative, and Talented Students (ACTS) offering through the Burlington-Edison School District provides our students with many challenging opportunities for enrichment and advanced study. We are continuing to expand the Enrichment classes we offer outside the school day, the Pullout classes offered during the school day and are increasing support within the regular classroom program.
Students are selected for the ACTS program based on evidence of exceptional academic and/or creative behaviors as observed by their teachers, along with scores on nationally normed tests. Characteristics considered are thinking and observational skills, recognition of cause and effect relationships, inventiveness, imagination and creativity, and ability to concentrate and persist at a task. Research indicates that highly capable students benefit most from spending time working with their mental peers. It is the intent of the ACTS Program to offer activities that involve thinking and working at a more rapid rate, with greater depth and breadth than is often possible in the regular classroom because of the wide range of ability levels. Please see the “Philosophy” page for more details about the way ACTS is organized.
